"Pennsylvania Dutch" Cookery. Breakfast time!

All you need to do to find out a little about the Pennsylvania Dutch is look at their plate when they sit

down to eat breakfast.  One thing you probably will not find is yogurt of any kind.  No matter, things you will probably find on their table is meat and potatoes.

You usually will find the potatoes in the form of cakes, maybe fried, whole potatoes or mashed or sliced.  Gravy is often made out of milk in the frying pan right after the potatoes are finished.  Along with the potatoes you will find meat such as sausage, ham, bacon, scrapple, or meat pudding.

The other common staples for a Pennsylvania Dutch Breakfast table are Breads and breakfast desserts in the form of the famous Shoo-Fly pie, crumb cakes or cookies, all of a consistency that makes the good for dunking in your milk or coffee.

Quantity more than anything else is the key, after all, you are breaking your daily "fast" and fueling your body for the day ahead.
